The book I wish I’d had before caregiving became my second full-time job

Hi,

For the past several years, I’ve been immersed in caregiving with my family. It began eleven years ago, when my mom suffered a stroke at the dinner table, and later deepened into a long caregiving journey with my dad.

Several months ago, I was sitting by his bedside during one of his many hospital admissions. While he rested, I found myself reflecting on everything that had happened since the cardiac event that began this chapter of our lives more than eight years ago.

Over the years, without even realizing it, I’d been collecting stories, experiences, tips, tools, and resources.

I had my laptop with me that day. My dad clearly needed his rest, and for once, I was content to simply sit by his bedside with nothing on my to do list that needed to be managed.

So I pulled my laptop out of my backpack and started writing.

The further along I got and the more I shared the concept with others, the more I realized I was writing a book that felt deeply personal, deeply practical, and very much needed.

Yesterday, I sent the final manuscript to the publisher.

On Tuesday, October 27, My Caregiving Essentials: What to Say, Do, and Prepare Before Caregiving Becomes Your Second Full-Time Job officially launches on Amazon.

I wrote this book for adult children with aging parents who want to feel more prepared before caregiving becomes overwhelming. While it will be helpful for anyone leaning into the caregiving journey, I wrote it especially with busy professional women in mind.

Truth is, it’s the book I wish I’d had before caregiving became my second full-time job.

Caregiving rarely arrives all at once. It often begins quietly. A parent seems a little more forgetful. A medication list gets more complicated. A fall changes the conversation. A hospital stay exposes gaps no one realized were there.

And before you know it, you’re coordinating appointments, paperwork, medications, care decisions, family communication, and logistics while still trying to manage the rest of your life.

That is exactly why I created the I.C.A.R.E. Method and wrote this book around it.

Built from decades of experience as a pharmacist, educator, coach, and caregiver, it is a practical roadmap from paperwork to peace of mind. It helps you prepare for the conversations, decisions, documents, and care transitions ahead so you can show up for your parent without losing yourself along the way.

This book is not about doing caregiving perfectly. It is about becoming more prepared. More informed. More intentional. And hopefully, a little less overwhelmed.

The timing of the launch is intentional too. We are heading into the holidays, when many adult children will spend more time with aging parents and notice things they may not see during shorter visits or phone calls.

Sometimes those moments are small. Sometimes they are unmistakable. Either way, being prepared matters.

As a launch-week thank you, anyone who purchases My Caregiving Essentials during launch week will receive a complimentary ticket to my 3-day My Caregiving Essentials Virtual Live Experience, January 21 to 23, 2027. I'll send details as the launch gets closer.

I’m also making a run for Amazon bestseller status on launch day, so if this book sounds like something you or someone you love may need, I would be incredibly grateful for your support on October 27.

I’ll send the Amazon link as soon as the book is live.

For now, you can learn more at mycaregivingessentials.com.

And if someone comes to mind who might benefit, I’d be grateful if you shared this email with them.

With love,
Trisha

Hi, This week’s blog post is a little bit caregiving respite, some RV chaos, a little bit book launch, and a lot about remembering that not everything that goes wrong means everything has gone wrong. Hi, Sometimes the Universe sends a sign. And sometimes it sends the same message twice just to make sure you’re paying attention. This week, mine showed up in a Facebook memory, an old T-shirt, and something about a tomato.. I just needed to begin. This week’s reflection is about procrastination, synchronicity, and what can happen when we give ourselves a few focused minutes to start. Hi, If you're new here, welcome! If you've been here for awhile, you may have noticed I’ve missed two weeks of blog posts. The truth is, sometimes life simply gets too full. Responsibilities pile up. People need us. Paperwork needs handling. Travel happens. Illness happens. Emotions move quietly, or not so quietly, underneath it all. And eventually, the body starts telling the truth. This week’s reflection is about exhaustion, slowing down, and learning to listen before we completely lose...
