Good morning, On March 1, 2025, Starr—a dear friend, colleague, and a proud veteran—sent me a text that hit me like a punch to the gut. "I'm not in a good place. I can't get off the couch today." "What's up?" I asked. She was triggered by a press release announcing an order calling for the immediate dismissal of transgender veterans from the military. Just like that—years of service, sacrifice, and courage erased. Starr served 13 years as a gay woman in hiding, navigating a system that forced her to suppress who she was just to survive. And now, that press release dragged her back to that same dark place—afraid, invisible, unable to exist freely. Hiding in plain sight—again. Self-care is always my first go to, so I naturally knew what to do to support Starr. I drove to her house, picked her up, stopped to get coffee and took her to the water. We set up our chairs, took in the sun, the sea, the serenity and sipped our coffee in silence. There were no words at first. Just the quiet. And then the words flowed about the ache of watching, again and again, as people’s dignity and humanity are stripped away. This is not leadership. This is abuse. And we are so done with it. This isn’t just about one policy. One group. One moment in time. 💥 So together we created an online space. Not just to talk about it—but to stand up, speak out, and take action. Starr is off the couch and has turned her fear into courage and inspired action. And that day something shifted in me, too. The Shift That Changed EverythingUp until now, my writing, coaching, and teaching have come from a quiet, reflective place. Good morning! Three days ago, I quietly published a book on Amazon. It's the first mini book of my new What I’ve Learned from Other People’s Kids That Parents Need to Know series. It’s based on 20+ years teaching sex ed in classrooms, running teen health clinics, mentoring peer educators and answering the real questions kids don’t always ask their parents. The stories are raw. The lessons are real. And it's jam packed with insight about where teens are coming from and how parents can best...
