A simple emergency tool I wish we’d had ...

Hi friends,

Lately, I’ve been feeling the threads of my work coming together in a way I did not fully expect.

For years, I’ve written and taught about life transitions, purpose, legacy, and what it means to move from one chapter of life into the next with more clarity, courage, and heart.

And now I’m realizing that my newest project, My Caregiving Essentials, is part of that same body of work.

Actually, it has become one of my own legacy projects, even though I never really saw it coming. Caregiving is a life transition, too. It changes families. It changes roles. It changes how we think about love, responsibility, preparation, and what it means to care without losing ourselves in the process.

Recently, that became very personal. One critical incident with my dad inspired me to focus on this project.

My dad experienced a serious, life-threatening medication error during an emergency room visit. As a result, I created a free resource called the Refrigerator Emergency Kit. It is a simple way to keep essential medical information visible, updated, and easy to find when it matters most.

The kit is also part of the “A” step in the new I.C.A.R.E. framework I've developed to support caregivers. The framework is the foundation of my upcoming book, My Caregiving Essentials: What to Say, Do, and Prepare Before Caregiving Becomes Your Second Full-Time Job. The “A” is about accessing and organizing critical information before a crisis hits.

So no, I haven’t abandoned my original body of work.

I’m seeing how deeply intertwined it all is.

Sometimes legacy looks like a dream we finally give ourselves permission to pursue. Sometimes legacy looks like making sure the people we love have what they need in a moment of crisis. And sometimes it looks like sharing what we’ve learned in a way that impacts the lives of others.

I wrote more about why I created the Refrigerator Emergency Kit, including a conversation I had with a longtime paramedic friend about what EMTs and ER staff really need to know.

You can read the post and download the free Refrigerator Emergency Kit here:

And, as always, please share this email or the link to this blog post to anyone you think might benefit.

With love,
Trisha

Hi, At first, you may not call yourself a caregiver. Perhaps you’re just helping out. But somewhere along the way, helping can quietly become a role. And naming that role matters. This is the next post in my I.C.A.R.E. Series, and it begins with the first step in The I.C.A.R.E. Method: I — Identify Your Role You can read it here: https://www.amatterofmagic.com/blog/the-icare-series-when-helping-out-becomes-caregiving#/ Take good care, Trisha www.amatterofmagic.com To read the first post in...

Hi, I thought I was going to start this new series at the beginning of the method I’m teaching. That would have made sense. But this week, sitting by the lake for the first time in a very long time, I realized I needed to start somewhere else. At the end. With the part so many of us leave until last. The part we may really need first. You can read about it here: https://www.amatterofmagic.com/blog/the-part-we-leave-until-last-but-really-need-first#/ Here's to the importance for taking an...

Hi! A simple question asked on a training call this morning stopped me in my tracks. It was: What is your superpower? I thought I knew the answer, but when I went to write it down, I couldn't find the words. The question led me somewhere I didn’t expect, especially as I’ve been thinking more deeply about how my superpowers connect to the major life transition I'm going through right now. I wrote about it today on my A Matter of Magic blog. Click here to read it. And as you read, ask yourself...
